ChatGPT now lets you lock your chats

What's new

• Locked Chats: locks a conversation behind a four-digit PIN, Face ID, or Touch ID
• Separate section: locked chats are invisible in regular history, pinned chats, and search results
• Isolated Memory: if Memory is on, the locked section has its own Memory, separate from regular chats
• Limitations: does not work for temporary, archived, or group chats; chats opened from a shared link; chats with Scheduled Tasks; or chats with meeting recordings

Why it matters

Addresses a specific use case — shared devices at home or in the office. This is not end-to-end encryption: OpenAI still stores conversations normally. Resetting the PIN permanently deletes all locked chats.

How to try it

Rolling out gradually — you may not have it yet. Enable in Settings. Available for Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu (not for ChatGPT for Healthcare).
