GitHub Copilot: Claude Opus 5 Available for Pro+ and Higher Plans

• Usage-based billing – not a flat rate, you pay for actual tokens
• Admin policy required – organization admins must first enable the model
• Available from July 24, 2026
• Integration via existing Copilot interface in IDE and on GitHub.com

Why It Matters

Opus 5 is Anthropic's most capable model. Its availability directly in GitHub Copilot means developers do not need to leave the IDE for the most demanding tasks – complex refactoring, code security audits, or analysis of large codebases within the 1M context window.

How to Try It

1. Org admin: Settings → Copilot → Model policies → enable Claude Opus 5
2. Developer: in Copilot Chat select model Claude Opus 5 from dropdown
3. Monitor usage in GitHub billing dashboard (token-based billing)
