Anthropic Upgrades Claude Voice Mode: Now Runs on Opus and Sonnet Models for the First Time, Not Just Haiku
What's new
- Opus and Sonnet in voice mode: Claude Voice Mode now supports Opus and Sonnet models, not just Haiku
- Deeper reasoning: Opus and Sonnet have significantly greater cognitive capacity than Haiku — users get more detailed and accurate voice responses
- Haiku remains available: Haiku is still available in voice mode for fast responses
- Prior limitation: before this update, Claude voice mode ran exclusively on Haiku, which favors speed over depth
Why it matters
Paying Plus, Pro, and Team plan users previously had a paradox: they paid for Opus/Sonnet but voice mode automatically fell back to Haiku. This update eliminates that asymmetry and allows the full capability of premium models to be used in real-time voice conversation.
How to try it
Open the Claude app (web or mobile), switch to voice mode, and select Sonnet or Opus in model settings. Available for Plus, Pro, and Team plans.
