What happened

Block (Jack Dorsey's company behind Square, Cash App) launched Buzz on July 21, 2026 — an open-source workspace where AI agents share channels with people as full team members. Infrastructure runs on Nostr — a decentralized protocol using cryptographically signed events.

Context and impact

Buzz targets Slack and GitHub by unifying chat, Git hosting, and AI agents in one place. Unlike other solutions, agents aren't bots or integrations — they have their own cryptographic identity and can do everything humans can: search discussions, submit patches, review code, run workflows. Dorsey introduced it as model-neutral and self-sovereign.
