Japan Government, Industrial Leaders and NVIDIA Launch the World's First National AI Infrastructure

What happened

Japan's government (METI), Noetra Corp. and NVIDIA on July 16, 2026 announced the world's first national AI infrastructure — an AI factory with 13,750 NVIDIA Vera CPUs and 27,500 NVIDIA Rubin GPUs at 140 MW capacity.

Context and impact

The project supports Japan's FRONTia Initiative to strengthen the AI ecosystem across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare and telecommunications. Jensen Huang called it part of "the next industrial revolution." Fujitsu, Hitachi and Kawasaki Heavy Industries joined the industrial coalition.
