Nvidia and SK Hynix sign multi-year deal for next-gen AI memory chips
What happened
On June 7, 2026 Nvidia and SK Hynix announced a multi-year pact to develop and manufacture the next generation of memory chips for AI accelerators. The deal covers chip design and manufacturing capacity.
Context and impact
HBM (high-bandwidth memory) is a bottleneck for the whole industry. SK Hynix has the largest share in HBM3E/HBM4 and Nvidia wants long-term volume commitments. For Samsung and Micron this means half the market is closing. It echoes the chip-design partnership between TSMC and Nvidia from 2022.
Details
- Duration: multi-year, exact years undisclosed
- Scope: next-gen HBM (presumably HBM5)
- Strategic impact: SK Hynix entrenches as top HBM supplier
