Google will pay SpaceX $920M per month for compute
What happened
Google signed a contract with SpaceX: from October 2026 through June 2029 it will pay $920M per month for access to roughly 110,000 Nvidia GPUs, CPUs, memory and related components housed in SpaceX data centres.
Context and impact
Google is simultaneously raising $80B in equity (including from Berkshire) for AI capex and investing up to $40B in Anthropic. That it is paying competitor SpaceX for compute shows how tightly capacity is bent in 2026 — even a hyperscaler with its own TPU does not have enough hardware.
Details
- Duration: 10/2026 – 6/2029
- Monthly price: $920M (~$33B total)
- Hardware: ~110,000 Nvidia GPUs/CPUs + memory
- SpaceX is separately acquiring Cursor for $60B
