Bringing Claude Code and Claude Cowork to Government — FedRAMP High Public Beta
What is new
- Claude Code in Government Desktop: build and modernize software systems in a FedRAMP High authorized environment
- Claude Cowork in Government Desktop: work with desktop files — memos, RFP reviews, casework, decks
- Hash-chained audit log: tamper-evident log of administrative actions with two-person approval for sensitive operations
- SCIM group mappings: per-seat-tier rate limits and model restrictions for sub-agencies
- Spend governance: configurable seat tiers, spend limits, and model restrictions per department
- Metered usage exports: metering data only (no content), suitable for IG and ATO requests
- Deployment: via standard agency MDM platforms; Anthropic remains contracting and billing party
Why it matters
U.S. government agencies can now deploy Claude Code and Cowork in a fully FedRAMP High authorized environment without a separate cloud-provider relationship. Audit logs and spend controls are purpose-built for ATO processes and Inspector General requirements.
How to try it
Available via Claude for Government Desktop (public beta from July 7, 2026). Anthropic has published a FedRAMP Secure Configuration Guide for security teams.
