GitHub Copilot for Jira is now generally available
What's new
- Streaming agent progress: agent progress streamed live into Jira tickets.
- Post-session steering: follow-up instructions from the Jira chat panel continue on the same draft PR instead of creating new ones.
- Simplified onboarding: faster connection of GitHub orgs and repos to Jira.
- Carried over from preview: model selection, Confluence context, custom agents/fields, review-request notifications.
Why it matters
Copilot for Jira is a strategic piece of the Atlassian/GitHub relationship — Jira remains the most-used enterprise issue tracker and GA signals operational stability for big teams. Post-session steering is a non-trivial development: instead of isolated agent runs, it turns a Jira ticket into a continuous dialog with the agent around one PR. Competing solutions (Linear AI, Notion External Agents) don't have this integration yet.
How to try
Available via the Atlassian Marketplace, requires GitHub Enterprise Cloud or Copilot Business/Enterprise. Connect org/repo via the new simplified flow in the Jira admin panel.
