What happened

On 19 June 2026, Hyundai announced it had bought out SoftBank's remaining stake in Boston Dynamics for $325M, becoming the sole owner of the company.

Context and impact

SoftBank acquired Boston Dynamics from Google in 2017 and sold a controlling stake to Hyundai in 2020. The exit ends roughly nine years of SoftBank involvement in robotics, and Hyundai gains tighter vertical integration around Atlas (humanoid) and Spot (quadruped).
